Imagine for a minute that you could receive incredible dental care that is subtle or noninvasive. If you have had dental treatments before, especially something corrective like braces, there are not always subtle. Unfortunately, it’s almost like you took out a full-page advertisement out in the newspaper to tell everyone about your procedures. It’s no surprise that people want to keep their dental treatments to themselves. They don’t want to be asked about the procedure or it distract people.

We understand that desire, and that’s why our office has put a massive focus on subtle, noninvasive treatments. At Edgewood Dental Care, you can receive subtle cosmetic or corrective care that will fit in with your lifestyle. Below are a few ways we can give you a healthy, beautiful smile:

Get the Metal Off Your Teeth
Crooked teeth are a common problem in our society. Our office sees adults and children who struggle mightily with these problems. Most small children do not mind wearing braces, as many of their friends are undergoing similar treatments. But for adults, it’s difficult to find the right solution to fix crooked teeth. That’s why our office has implemented clear ceramic braces. These braces are far more subtle than conventional metal braces and much more comfortable.

Ceramic braces, like traditional braces, rely on pressure to move the teeth into a more ideal position. Our adult patients who say the clear ceramic braces make them comfortable in professional, social, and even romantic situation than they ever imagine while wearing braces.

Use Clear Aligners to Straighten Teeth
Staying on the topic of crooked teeth, it’s possible to crooked teeth without using braces or wires of any kind — ceramic or metal. Patients with mildly crooked teeth can straighten out their problems with clear aligners. These aligners, part of our Invisalign treatment, are not fixed to the teeth and can be easily removed for eating and cleaning. For patients with crooked teeth, clear aligners are a lifestyle choice. They don’t have to deal with the discomfort of metal braces, the unattractiveness of metal braces, or even the food restrictions that come with metal braces.

A typical Invisalign case can take anywhere from 12 to 18 months, which is about half the treatment time of traditional metal braces.

No More Metal in Your Teeth
A huge portion of us are walking around with fillings. Fillings have been used in dentistry for hundreds of years. As you might expect, the technology has jumped leaps and bounds in that time — even in the past few decades. If you’re 30 or older, you might have old, metal fillings that were placed when you were a kid. Metal, of course, does not blend in with the natural shade of your teeth. It sticks out like a sore thumb when you laugh or smile. That’s why our office uses state-of-the-art resin fillings that are tooth-colored. When resin fillings were first introduced into dentistry, they were only used on the front section of the teeth. Now the resin material is much stronger and commonly used on the biting surface of the teeth.

We prepare resin fillings to metal because the material is naturally looking and it bonds to the tooth. Unlike resin fillings, metal fillings do not bond to the tooth, which makes it possible for bacteria and tooth decay to work its way between the tooth and the filling.
