Are you a technophile, always first in line to buy the coolest new gadget — often regardless of whether said gadget is useful or not? Or, on the other extreme, are you a proud luddite, still clinging to your flip phone and paper (and only paper) books?

If you’re like most people, you are probably somewhere in between. But here’s the thing. While in general, high-tech is not necessarily synonymous with better, when it comes to dentistry, technological advancements have been a particularly positive development.

New digital equipment and modern techniques have made dental procedures faster, more precise, less invasive, and less uncomfortable. And we think that’s something even the most ardent technophobe can appreciate.

At Edgewood Dental Care, our goal is to provide superior dental care and the best possible experience for our patients. So it makes sense that we’ve jumped with enthusiasm onto the dental tech bandwagon.

CEREC Same-Day Crowns

A dental crown is a very common restoration that covers and protects a damaged tooth. In the old days of dentistry (and at many dental offices even today), the process of getting a crown would last weeks. At your first appointment, we would take impressions and measurements of the tooth. We’d then have to send them to an outside lab, where your custom crown would be manufactured. Once we received your crown at Edgewood Dental Care, we’d have you come in for a second time to have it fitted. So two dental visits and several weeks. Not fun!

Our state-of-the-art CEREC machine is a dental lab right here in the office, enabling us to manufacture your crown immediately, while you wait. The machine reduces the weeks’-long procedure to about an hour.

The entire process is digitized, simplified, and streamlined. A digital scanner will take detailed and highly refined electronic impressions of your tooth. A 3-D model of your tooth will be sent to the CEREC milling machine, which will cut your perfectly fitted crown from a piece of ceramic that’s a precise match to your tooth color.
One of our doctors will bond the restoration to your tooth, and you will be ready to go!

Lasers for Easier Gum Disease Treatment

Gum disease, or periodontal disease, occurs when bacteria, plaque, and tartar cause your gums to become inflamed and deteriorate. Left untreated, it can lead to tooth loss and other severe problems including systemic disease.
At Edgewood Dental Care, we have two revolutionary procedures that eliminate gum disease more effectively and with less pain and bleeding.

Our LANAP Laser removes diseased gum tissue quickly and gently with minimal discomfort. With laser therapy, you won’t experience much bleeding and you will heal more quickly than with traditional treatments.

We also have the Diode Laser, which we use to remove bacteria, plaque, and tartar in the pockets beneath your gums.

Digital Imaging Tools for Better Diagnostics

Here at Edgewood Dental Care, we’ve adopted a number of cutting-edge digital imaging technologies for better pictures and a less-invasive patient experience.

Our Cone Beam CT Scanner enables us to create meticulously detailed 3-D images of your teeth and mouth so we can better pinpoint areas of decay. This makes for better and more precise treatments. As the patient, you are exposed to less radiation than with a traditional CT scan.

Digital X-rays are superior to conventional X-rays because they offer excellent image quality, expose you to 90% less radiation, and they are “developed” instantly. No need to wait around while we develop film.

The DIAGNOdent cavity-detection system uses laser fluorescent technology to easily and noninvasively detect hidden cavities that may be missed by the naked eye.

Our iTero Intraoral Digital Scanner allows us to create precise 3-D images when we plan out your Invisalign treatment. We take the images here in our office, and they are sent to the Invisalign lab where your aligners are crafted.

Painless Anesthesia with the WAND

For many patients, the needle used to deliver local anesthesia is the worst part of a dental procedure. It’s supposed to relieve pain, which it does, but it often causes a fair amount of discomfort itself.

If you dread that needle, you will be thrilled to know that at Edgewood Dental Care, we use the painless WAND computerized anesthesia delivery system. Because the flow of the anesthetic is precisely controlled by computer, the injection is virtually painless. Many people don’t even realize the injection happened until it’s over!
