What Is Dental Sedation
Dental sedation is a way we can help you feel 100 percent comfortable throughout your visit to our office! Dental sedation comes in a variety of forms and is a substance or medication that you take to feel at ease. It is used to relax the mind and body to allow for a stress-free experience.

What Types Of Sedation Do You Offer?
We offer three levels of dental sedation here at Edgewood Dental Care. Each can be used in different situations to produce different levels of relaxation. Let’s talk about each of our options:

Nitrous Oxide Sedation – Also known as laughing gas, nitrous oxide is our lowest level of dental sedation. This option is inhaled via a face mask. It creates a sense of euphoria, taking the edge off your nerves and allowing you to relax. Typically safe for children and nervous patients of all ages!
Oral Conscious Sedation – This is a medication that is taken by mouth before your appointment. It creates a groggy, relaxed state so that you will not feel discomfort or fear during the appointment. This is great for patients who need a little bit more help than simply taking the edge off.

IV Sedation – IV sedation is our deepest level of sedation and is administered via an intravenous line. It creates a sleep-like state and will allow you to completely avoid the sounds, smells, sights, and sensations of the dental procedure. Great for very fearful patients or long, complicated procedures.

Is It Safe?
Many people wonder if dental sedation is really safe to use. The answer is simple: completely. Our team is specially trained to administer dental sedation. We will monitor your situation at all times to ensure that you are comfortable and safe. Even when choosing IV sedation (our deepest level of sedation), you are in good hands. Our team has a ton of great experience helping patients use dental sedation to achieve maximum comfort!

Is It Right For Me?
Chances are that if you are interested in dental sedation that it is right for you! Because our office offers three different levels of sedation, we can find one that fits your specific needs. Whether you are only slightly nervous about visiting the dentist or have severe anxiety or fear, we can help.

Be sure to let our office know about any medications or other health concerns before using dental sedation, as these things may affect your ability to use certain types of sedation. Certain types may also not be suitable for children. Talk to our team concerning your specific situation to find out if dental sedation is a good option for you.

What Will Happen If I Avoid Dental Care Due To Anxiety?
Avoiding dental care due to dental anxiety or fear can be detrimental to your oral health. Unfortunately, we see it all of the time. We regularly meet patients who have not seen a dentist is many years due their fear or anxiety … and these patients often need extensive dental work. To avoid the need for overly extensive work, we recommend visiting the dentist on a regular basis. Our team would be happy to offer you regular exams, where we can check for and diagnose any problems that may arise while they are still small.

If you have already been avoiding the dentist due to fear or anxiety, it is not too late to seek help! Dental anxiety is great for helping patients get through extensive dental work, if necessary. We can take care of your problems no matter how large or small.
