We Are Here For You
Did you know that as many as 20% of Americans suffer from dental anxiety for one reason or another? If you need help relieving dental anxiety, it’s important that you know you are not alone. Maybe you had a painful experience with a dentist when you were young. Or perhaps you just don’t like the sights and smells of the dental office. No matter the cause, our friendly team can help put you at ease!
We understand it’s not simply a matter of “getting over it” when it comes to dental anxiety. When you arrive at our Edgewood, KY dental office, we will greet you with friendly smiles and listen carefully to your particular concerns and goals. This will help calm your nerves and help us improve your overall experience.
Your Dental Sedation Options
To help relieve your dental anxiety, we offer three forms of dental sedation at Edgewood Dental Care. So you’ll know what to expect, we’ll explain the effects of each form of dental sedation. We will discuss your options with you beforehand so you can make the choice that is right for you! Our team is highly-trained in administering dental sedation in-house, which means you won’t have to deal with an unfamiliar specialist to benefit from dental sedation.
Nitrous oxide, more commonly referred to as “laughing gas,” is a gas mixed with oxygen that you inhale using a small mask. Within moments you’ll feel completely relaxed and possibly experience a mild euphoria. Many of our patients have only a foggy memory of sitting down in the dental chair. We will carefully monitor you while we improve your smile and adjust your dosage accordingly.
If you’d like to feel completely calm when you arrive at our office, we also offer oral conscious sedation. At an initial consultation, we will write a prescription for a pill. At a predetermined time prior to your appointment, you will take the pill so its effects will kick in before you even arrive at our office. You will stay conscious during your visit, but will likely only remember bits and pieces after you leave.
The strongest form of dental sedation we offer is IV sedation. You will feel the effects almost immediately. Though you will stay conscious so we can communicate with you, you will drift into a dream-like state. We will monitor you carefully and adjust your dosage as needed. Most patients don’t even remember visiting. Your improved smile will certainly be memorable though!
For your safety, you will need a trusted friend or family member to drive you to and from your visit if you would like dental sedation.
Advanced Technology, Comfort Options
Dental sedation isn’t the only way we help make dentistry stress-free. We have also invested in some of the most state-of-the-art dental technology to make your treatments more comfortable.
Thanks to the Wand computer-assisted anesthesia delivery system, we can numb you comfortably and quickly. If you’ve ever had to have a traditional dental impression done, you know how uncomfortable it can be. To improve your visit, we can perform a digital impression using our cone beam CT scanner and create detailed images of the inside of your mouth using our digital X-rays. We also have intraoral cameras in every care room to get a close-up view of your teeth!
Our lakeside office also has a wide array of comfort options to help put you at ease, including:
- Flat-screen TVs in every care room for your viewing pleasure
- Heated massage chairs in certain care rooms
- A refreshment bar with coffee, water, and healthy snacks
- Warm towels and blankets
- Headphones with your favorite music
- Lip balm
We can also offer extended appointments and accommodate your busy schedule with morning, evening, and Saturday visits by request. If you would like some privacy, we can also offer semi-private care rooms!
