For Oral Cancer Awareness Month, we want to share a few things you should know about this disease. That includes making an appointment at Edgewood Dental Care in Edgewood, KY.
1. Protect Your Mouth
Going to the dentist for routine cleanings and exams isn’t just about cavities and gum disease. We will watch for any abnormalities in your mouth. If we notice anything that could be a symptom of oral cancer, we want you to know right away. Early detection can be invaluable in the success of your treatment.
2. Limit Your Risk Factors
You can’t help getting older or your family history. However, there are things you can do to reduce your risk of developing oral cancer. Avoiding tobacco and limiting alcohol are both good places to start. You certainly should not use tobacco products while consuming alcohol.
3. Do a Self-Check
Between dental exams, you can conduct a self-check of your mouth and neck. This video by the Cleveland Clinic explains what you should do.
