The Pinhole Gum Recession Process

It's just a more simplistic way of covering up gum recession versus the old way of using a scalpel to cut and pull down the gum and take a piece of skin off the roof of your mouth which is painful and people detest. Instead you're just gently moving your own tissues down over the gum recession filling in the hole with collagen and it covers the gum recession, actually fills in the gum recession, and it works very, very well. It's very a traumatic, fairly effective as far as time wise, all done in one day and you leave here most of the case without stitches, without any scalpels or anything. Sometimes I will put a stitch but most of the time nothing like that.
It’s been estimated that as many as half of Americans suffer from gum recession. Most dentists treat the problem with gum grafts. While this method does work well, it results in discomfort for the patient during the procedure and a lengthy healing process.
The Pinhole technique, in contrast, can be completed quickly and comfortably – many patients fully heal over night!
Instead of using gum grafts, we will create a tiny pinhole, gently loosen your gums around the area of recession, and then move your gums back to their proper position. You’ll see dramatic results the same day of the procedure, and as your gums continue to heal, your appearance will only improve.
To ensure you are completely comfortable during the gum recession treatment, we can also administer dental sedation, including:
- Inhaled sedation
- Oral sedation
- IV sedation
If that isn’t enough to put you at ease, our trusted Edgewood. KY dentists also have several comfort options to help relieve your dental anxiety.
