Thanks for coming back to join us for Part 2 of our cosmetic Q&A blog series! In our last post, we talked about the ways Edgewood Dental Care can fix your cracked, chipped, broken, and decayed teeth! Dr. McMahon and our entire team of Edgewood, KY cosmetic dentists can create a beautiful smile for other problems you have, too!

Let’s take a look at some more questions and answers in today’s post regarding stained teeth, missing teeth, gaps between teeth, and unattractive gums.

My teeth are stained or discolored. What’s the best way to whiten my teeth?
Whether your teeth are stained from external sources (food, drinks, decay, tobacco, alcohol, tetracycline) or internal sources (medical conditions, genetics), we can help! To address every level of teeth staining, we have many types of teeth whitening treatments, veneers, and bonding to help.
In our last blog post, we talked about bonding to cover stains from decay. Teeth whitening is also an effective way to whiten your stained teeth. Our office uses KoR deep bleaching, Zoom! whitening, and laser teeth whitening to get rid of stains.

If you have mildly to moderately stained teeth, a Zoom! one-hour in-office whitening session can make your teeth shades whiter! If you have severely stained teeth, our KoR whitening system may be the best option for you. We’ll fit you for custom whitening trays, do the first session here in our office, and you’ll complete the treatments in the convenience of your home. KoR can whiten your teeth by 16 shades or more, making it ideal for those who have deep stains from medication or tobacco. Read more about our teeth whitening treatments here.

My tooth is missing. What’s the best tooth-replacement option?
We offer dental bridges and dental implants to replace teeth. Each has their unique advantages and disadvantages. Bridges are often more affordable up front and can replace just one tooth by using a series of crowns, one that fills the hole left by the missing tooth, and the other two that are placed on the two surrounding teeth for support. A dental implant consists of a titanium post that we carefully insert in your jaw and then top with a crown. This can provide a lifelong solution to one or more missing teeth, although it may be more expensive up front. It also prevents bone loss and doesn’t require removal of any healthy teeth material, like a bridge does.

If you are missing all or most of your teeth, our beautiful dentures are another way to replace an entire arch of teeth. Learn about the differences between these three options in our recent blog post.

How can I fix the gaps between my teeth?
If you have gaps between your teeth, dental bonding or veneers can fill in the gap. We can shape bonding on the side of your tooth and harden it to extend the width of your tooth. A longer-lasting solution is placing a veneer, slightly wider than your tooth, over the surface of your tooth so that it fills in the gap. Both options have pros and cons, but we always make sure to match your restoration to the rest of your smile for the most natural-looking results possible. See us to find out which solution is best for you.

If your gaps are severe, you may need to consider orthodontic treatment. We offer braces and other teeth straightening solutions right here in Edgewood, KY!
My teeth aren’t the issue. I have a gummy smile? What can I do?
If you have too much gum showing when you smile, you may have never known you could do anything about it until now! Using special techniques, we can reshape your gums to balance them out! Your teeth will no longer look too small, and you’ll get rid of your horsey smile for good!
