As you age your body goes through changes. A lot of those changes happen in your mouth and one of the most common ones is gum recession! Gum recession is most commonly caused by gum disease, a condition which nearly two thirds of adults will have over their lives!
Gum disease and gum recession are both incredibly common so you think there would be an easy way to restore damaged gum tissue! In the past it was necessary to have surgery and gum grafts to restore receded gum tissue, but not anymore! Edgewood Dental Care is proud to now be able to offer you one of the most minimally invasive and effective gum recession treatments available: The Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique!
What Is The Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique?
The pinhole technique uses a needle-sized specialized tool to go into your gums and re-align them at their proper, original place! There’s no scalpels, cutting, or stitches and most patients feel fine within a few days!
When your gums recede they expose a lot of sensitive root that can lead to quickly damaged teeth. As your roots continue to be exposed you can face tooth loss that starts small but continues around your whole mouth! This procedure aims to stop that loss from ever occurring and help you get a beautiful, healthy gumline too!
How Does The Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique Work?
WHen you come to our Edgewood dentist office for a gum recession treatment using the pinhole technique we’ll start with a full assessment of your oral health. We want to be sure that your teeth are healthy enough to handle the procedure!
After we’ve determined that you’re a good candidate we’ll begin the procedure by numbing your gums. If you’re feeling anxious or scared about the procedure we can also offer sedation to help you relax! Once you’re relaxed and the anesthesia has taken effect we’ll start your gum treatment!
We begin by making a small pin-sized entry point in your gums. Our special tools are designed to adjust your gumline and lower it to its original position without any other invasiveness! Your procedure will take a few hours to complete and can be split up between multiple sessions if you prefer.
Treatment Recovery
Your gums are some of the most responsive and fast healing tissue in your body. The pinhole that we make for the technique is gone by the next day and the gums themselves don’t appear damaged or hurt at all – they just look great!
Recovering from the Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique isn’t a concern because it’s so simple and gentle on your gums! You’ll be amazed at how great you look and how wonderful you feel after just one or two days of recovery!
Who Is An Ideal Candidate?
The best candidate for the Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique is an adult who is at least 40 years of age. Gum recession treatment is often necessary after adult orthodontic treatments, gum disease treatments, or dental trauma due to accident or illness.
